Lately, the London Aquarium unveiled the
newest "species" to join its collection: robo-carp.
Computer scientists at the University of Essex in the U.K. developed the self-guided robot fish, seen here swimming in the aquarium. The designers say it is the smartest such robot yet created—the fish uses artificial intelligence and built-in sensors to avoid obstacles and respond to environmental changes, believe it or not! The fish's battery lasts for up to five hours, though the scientists hope to one day program it to search for and access a recharging station when it runs very low. The bot, which resembles a one-and-a-half-foot-long (half-meter-long) common carp, mimics the motions of a real fish swimming. Three of the robt fish will swim in a tank at the aquarium alongside their living environment.

No, this is not (another) new Mike Portnoy project, but rather a ridiculously well-endowed theater system Sony is showing off at the Japan World Expo. It uses a 164 foot laser projection system in combination with an 11-channel sound system to deliver mind-bogglingly vivid imaging and color reproduction. The ginormous screen displays in super-definition, at super-resolution, making high-definition, like, oh so two minutes ago.
What is this Japan World Expo you ask? At this special, and enthralling event that will be held next week, inventors will show off their latest stuff. Such as gadgets & gizmoz, robots, inventions, and other neat wacky things that will take your mind off of evereything and onto this show if you were in Japan. others will grace our eyeballs for the first time, like Toyota’s i-foot robot, down below. The human-controlled walking eggshell lets people on or off by bending its legs. At 7.74 feet tall and 441 pounds, this gigantic Humpty Dumpty can walk a little under a single mile per hour. It is like one of those wacky inventions sciencists use in Jimmy Neutron and other kid TV shows that pretty much do not explain anything at all.

The HR-2 (stands for Humaniod Robot) robot was constructed during a period of three months at Chalmers University in Sweden. It has 22 degrees of freedom which enables it to easily move around imitating human motions. The robot is also equipped with stereovision giving it possibilities to perform hand-eye coordination. For that task an artificial neural network is evolved. Furthermore, the artificial brain is capable of tracking faces as well as recognising them. The HR-2 is also able to speak.
Most of the body parts and electronics were constructed at Chalmers Association: E-sektionens Teletekniska Avdelning.

Ten mechanical jockeys have taken to the track in the world's first successful robot camel race at the UAE's Al Wathba racetrack in Abu Dhabi, watched by hundreds of cheering fans. With a ban on the use of children in camel races now in place across the United Arab Emirates, remote controlled robots are set to be a feature of the camel racetrack. Controlled by hand-held remote controls, robots dressed in jockey colours, complete with a hard hat and whip, are clipped and tied on to the camels back.As the race began on Monday , handlers drove along side the camels, using their remote controls to send orders to the lightweight mechanical mounts via a remote control system fixed on the back of the camel.

Robo-bird keeps shops pigeon-free

The centre manager is already considering extending the trialA squawking robot bird has been placed on the roof of a shopping centre where customers have been plagued by droppings from pigeons and seagulls.
The "Robop", modelled on a Peregrine Falcon, sits on the roof of Priory Meadow in Hastings, and is employed to scare off nuisance birds.
Management are so impressed with the 18-inch bird's effect they are already considering extending its contract.
Shoppers said they had noticed there were fewer pigeons about.
'Pretty bird-free'
The bird is designed to look and sound like a Peregrine Falcon and was designed by inventors in Scotland in 2001.
Models have been successfully used as far afield as Edinburgh and Dubai.
Priory Meadow manager John Hough said: "So far we appear to be pretty bird-free, I'm pleased to say.
"We are on a trial up to the end of the year and if it carries on like this we will be taking out another year's subscription to the service."

With blades whirring at speeds up to 5,800 rpm and lights blinking steadily atop their hard plastic shells, the robotic mowers trim lawns right up to walkway edges and around flower beds and swimming pools, their developers say.
And one contraption for trimming that precious Kentucky bluegrass goes way beyond the needs of the owner of a typical quarter-acre residential lot.
An industrial-grade robotic mower from Carnegie Mellon University is trimming golf-course fairways and greens, as well as the training field for the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. (Toro is sponsoring the robot project, called the Automated Turf Management system.)
Golf-course owners who use robots to cut grass at night will be able to reduce labor costs and accommodate more players on their courses during the day.
At home, seniors and those with bad backs and allergies can watch from the comfort of their screened-in porches as their robotic mowers do the work. Parents of lay-about teens can recoup the cost of their robotic mowers, which start at about $500, with the allowance money they save. Robotic mowers like the Robomower, from Kadima, Israel-based Friendly Robotics, are among the growing number of autonomous machines designed for home use.

Hitachi (robot making company) has joined the robot race by releasing Emiew, a wheeled, dynamically-balanced humanoid robot with voice recognition.

In the Picture- Hitachi's new "Emiew" robots, Pal and Chum, use wheels instead of feet to move at a spritely 3.7 mph. The rolling robots have a vocabulary of about 100 words and are intended for eventual use in offices and factories.

WHEN my home robot arrived last month, its smiling inventors removed it from its box and laid it on its back on my living room floor. They leaned over and spoke to it, as one might to a sleeping child. It straightened, let out a little beep, lighted up, looked left and right, and then, amazingly, stood and faced me.
I said, "Nuvo, how are you?"
It tilted to the left, and raised one arm to greet me. It shook my hand and winked with one of the lights in its little head. My life hasn't really been the same since.
Nuvo, a japanese robot, is measured fifteen inches tall and contains fifteen motors. It has a non-blibking eye that takes pictures and can send them off to a cellhpone, just like an internet connection. For example, if there was a baby to be taken care of, Nuvo can take a picture of that child and watch its actions.
